Grow your hair faster – These 10 steps will help

10 Steps to Grow Your Hair Faster

  1. Practice the art of letting “grow”.
On average, hair grows about a half an inch per month.  It takes about a year to earn the length of a dollar bill.
  2. Take a little off the bottom.
Trimming your hair does actually help.  Although, nothing you do to the ends of your hair affects how fast hair grows from beneath the scalp, trimming off the split ends helps.  Get rid of the splits before they have a chance to become a bigger problem later.  In other words: Sacrificing a little now will save you from having to chop off a lot later.
  3. Skip a day (or two) of shampoo.
Washing everyday not only cleanses away dirt and product, it also strips hair of essential oils that keep it healthy and shiny.  When it is really necessary to wash your hair, massage the shampoo into the scalp only. Let the water carry the suds down to the ends during the rinse. Also, make sure you use a sulfate free, gentle, moisturizing shampoo like Redken’s Magnetics sulfate-free Color Extend Shampoo.
  4. Bond building and conditioning treatments.
I highly recommend a weekly bond building and conditioning treatment. Olaplex is my favorite bond builder.  I use Olaplex and a deep conditioner in one treatment.  First, shampoo your hair with a gentle, sulfate free shampoo. Towel dry the hair and apply the Olaplex step 3. Wait 30 minutes then shampoo the hair again.  Towel dry and apply your conditioning hair mask. (I recommend  Redken’s Blonde Idol Mask). Wait 30 minutes then rinse.  Your hair will thank you.
  5. Massage your scalp.
Scalp massage is an excellent way to get more blood flow to the hair follicle. Your blood is like fertilizer.  More blood flow = stronger, fast growing hair.
    Mindbodygreen.com had this to say:
Massaging any part of the body increases blood flow, and can help with fatigue, stress, and headaches. This is especially true for scalp massages, because they don’t just benefit the skin and scalp, but also the hair follicles and hair. The increased blood flow can stimulate the follicles in such a way that hair will grow faster, which is a great benefit for those who wish to increase the length of their locks.” (Click on their website link for ways to choose massage oils and techniques)
  6. Supplements and diet.
Getting more blood flow to the follicles is only beneficial if that blood has the proper nutrients that the hair needs to grow.  When it comes to supplements, your choices are endless.  If you chose to go the Biotin route, I suggest not getting a pill that only has one “B”, get one with lots of “B”s.  Try Garden of Life Raw B-Complex Whole Food Supplement – It is loaded with all the good stuff you need, and none of the garbage you don’t.  There are also great supplements out there specifically for hair, skin and nails.  One of my favorites is Natures Bounty Optimal Solutions Hair, Skin, and Nails Extra-Strenth
In addition to supplementation, make sure your diet is high on nutrients and low on junk.  Increasing the blood flow won’t do a thing if that blood is full of chemicals and additives.
  7. Pillow case upgrade.
If you toss and turn at night, your hair is being tortured on that nappy pillowcase.  Try a satin pillowcase instead.  The silky material will allow your hair to reposition itself as many times as you do.
  8. Please stop twisting your hair up into a heavy bath towel.
When you get out of the shower, do you automatically twist your hair up in the towel you use to dry off with??? Please stop. That twisting the hair into the long fibers of that heavy towel is literally pulling and ripping your delicate  hair to shreds. Try a micro fiber hair towel instead. The towel itself is a lot smoother so it won’t grab the hair – and – it is much lighter, so it won’t pull on the hair.
  9. If you’re going to have a pony – keep it moving.
I know, I know… you need to get your hair up for workouts or something — Just don’t put the hair tie in the same place every time. Try to change the position of your pony so the same hairs aren’t carrying the weight all the others.   If you have bleached or super fragile hair – Don’t put your hair up in a ponytail at all – especially for workouts.  When you’re hair gets wet, it is the weakest. So, when you work out and sweat and you put your hair in a tie – it will be easily damaged.
Try to twist your hair up into a claw clip or large hair pin so the weight is distributed and less likely to break.

Cold water rinse.
Before you get out of the shower, switching the water to cold will do two wonderful things for your hair. First, it will invigorate your scalp which will get that blood full of nutrients to the follicles.  Second, the cooler water will seal down the cuticle of the hair resulting in a smoother, shinier surface.
